September 15, 2016 – Pre-trip Post

Just two more days, and I will be off on my next adventure with Kelly and Mary Jo McMillan and 60 of my closest friends.  To give you a little rundown, we fly into Munich and travel to Passau located on the Germany/Austria border.  Passau is called “The Three Rivers City” where the rivers Danube, Inn and Ilz merge.  In Passau, we will board the barge, MS My Story, which will take us on our four country adventure, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Germany.  Here is a great link if you would like to know more about the trip.  http://flexitreks.com/cycling-holidays/danube-4-countries-bike-and-boat-ms-my-story/.

On our first day, we will start the cycling tour in Englehartszell and will head towards the Great Loop which is one of the most beautiful portions of the Danube bike path.  We will bike through Austria for a few days and will end up in Budapest, Hungary.  After a week of biking, we will travel back up to Munich to celebrate Octoberfest.  Here is a map of the boat\’s itinerary so you can follow along:

Kelly, Mary Jo and I will then fly over to Vilnius, Lithuania to visit the homeland of my grandparents.  We have a day set aside to travel to the Village of Trasninkas where my grandparents were born.  The visit will be topped off with a walking food tour of the old part of Vilnius.  I’m not sure I knew there was a new part!

After a few days in Lithuania, we will fly to Warsaw, Poland which is the homeland of Mary Jo’s father.  A day trip to Auschwitz and Krakau.  I’m sure the last two legs of our trip will be emotional and inspiring.

I hope all of you will be able to come along with us on this adventure.  Enjoy these few photos.  Hopefully, my technical expertise will allow me to upload the real thing in a few days.
